Giving Back

Organizations near and dear to us:

Union Rescue Mission

We love being able to help give hope and restore life, as well as being able to help feed over 2,600 people for Thanksgiving. Jeff and I are blessed to be able to donate enough to cover the cost of pumpkin pies for all of these people.

Leukemia Lymphoma Society

This is the organization I fundraised for to participate in the marathon and triathlon. I continue to give to this organization because of all the positive strides in blood cancer research they do. I have had family members die from different types of cancer and I am a cancer survivor. It was and is important to me to contribute to an organization where positive strides are being made to help end these deadly diseases.

CJD Foundation

Jeff and I contribute, because Jeff’s first wife contracted this deadly disease, which currently has no cure. Our contributions have aided research not only for CJD, but also other prion diseases. (Prion diseases are a group of rare, invariably fatal brain disorders, which occur both in humans and certain animals.

Saving Grace Maternity Home

This lovely home provides a healthy and loving residential environment for single young homeless women in an unplanned or crisis pregnancy, between the ages of 13-25.

Girl Scouts and Boys Scouts of America

What can I say? I was a Girl Scout and loved the experience! My sons were Boy Scouts and also learned so much. I have a soft spot when it comes to these young people trying to make a difference in their communities and the world.

It gives Jeff (my husband) and I great joy to be able to help others and to pay it forward. We are blessed to live an abundant life. We have things that many people don’t, such as a roof over their head, adequate food and clothing, and most of all, each other.

There are many times we will be out to dinner in any city we are visiting. Sometimes dining at a fine establishment, other times at a local fun place we like to frequent. We play a game with each other and try to find the couple on their honeymoon or the couple out with their family celebrating an occasion. We have a chat with our waiter and ask what these people are celebrating and ask for their check. The waiter always asks if he/she can tell the couple or family and we always say no. We love watching the people try to figure out who treated them to their meal and hope that someday, when they have the wherewithal, they will do the same for someone else. Jeff and I are very thankful that we’ve been able to work hard and live enriched lives, even though we’ve each been through so much.
